About Us

As a firm with professional geologist registrations in the states of Arizona and California, BEC’s technical staff has always maintained high professional standards required as registrants. As long-term residents of Arizona, we have strong ties to our local communities, the State of Arizona, and the Southwest.  We depend heavily on our reputations within the community and our relationships with clients to succeed.  As your environmental consultant, our primary concern is the successful completion of your environmental project in a manner which best meets your objectives.  During the completion of any project, whether it is a Phase I or Phase II ESA, a remedial action, or any other scope of work, we will strive towards completing the project within budget, on time, and meeting or exceeding the appropriate State, Federal, or industry standards.  Our goal is to perform at a level that encourages repeat business from clients and referrals to new clientele.

KEY PERSONNEL

Gary A. Bender, R.G. (AZ, CA), Senior Geologist (M.S. Geology):  In addition to two years of conducting archaeological surveys and four years of exploration for precious metals, Mr. Bender of BEC has over 18 years of environmental consulting experience in Arizona.  Mr. Bender has developed a broad range of expertise with numerous Arizona regulatory programs including the UST/LUST programs, Solid Waste, RCRA, WQARF, Voluntary Remediation.  He also has experience working with the US EPA and various tribal environmental agencies.

Kelly C. Bender, President (M.S., Geology):  Ms. Bender provides senior review and Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) for BEC technical documents.  Ms. Bender has nine years experience preparing and reviewing technical documents for geological research and environmental assessments.    In addition to her duties with BEC, Ms. Bender is a Mission Planner in the Arizona State University Geology Department, funded by NASA to control and direct the Thermal Imaging System (THEMIS) instrument currently compiling geologic data in orbit aboard Mars 2001 Odyssey.

As a company, BEC is insured through Hudson Specialty Insurance (A+ rated) for general liability ($1 million per occurrence) and for contractor’s pollution liability and professional liability coverage ($1 million per occurrence for each), and automobile liability ($1 million per occurrence).  This insurance is renewed through June 12, 2010.   A project- or client-specific certificate of insurance naming the client as additional insured will be generated upon request.  BEC personnel are all covered under Workers Compensation disability policies.

All of BEC’s field personnel are 40-hour HAZMAT trained and certified and have maintained annual 8-hour refresher certification.  Mr. Bender is Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA)-certified for open-pit mining operations.  BEC maintains a corporate health and safety program that includes annual physical monitoring for all field personnel.  Site-specific health and safety plans (HASPs) are prepared for each field project.
